About Tales of Illumination
Tales of Illumination is a contemporary luxury scent brand exploring scent as culture, object, and experience.
Founded by Peter Gentzel, the brand was created from a desire to place scent back at the centre of everyday life — not as decoration or an afterthought, but as a meaningful medium for atmosphere, reflection, and presence.
All Tales of Illuminations scents are developed in Grasse, in collaboration with master perfumers who normally work in fine fragrance. Each candle is poured there using carefully selected all-natural wax, chosen for its purity and clarity. The scents are built like fine perfume — with depth, structure, and evolution over time.
Before founding Tales, Peter worked across fragrance and luxury for houses such as Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Viktor & Rolf, as well as creating scent worlds for creatives in London, New York, and Asia. Tales of Illumination is his first own brand — shaped not by briefs or trends, but by personal conviction.
The idea for Tales emerged from two insights.
The first came with fatherhood: a realisation that it was time to build something of his own — to show his kids the value of listening to your gut, takerisk on a more uncertain, but more meaningful path.
The second came from observing an increasingly distracted world, where home fragrance had been reduced to an accessory. Tales was created as a response — treating scent as an experience in its own right, capable of creating moments of calm, focus, and inspiration.
Conceived as contemporary scent storytelling, each fragrance is inspired by a place — Amalfi, Chamonix, Stockholm, Marrakesh — interpreted not as a postcard, but as a memory, mood, and emotional landscape. Design and scent are developed together, resulting in objects intended to live naturally within considered interiors.
Designed in Stockholm and crafted in Grasse, Tales of Illumination exists to create moments where the noise fades — and something quieter, deeper, and more personal can emerge.
